I Will Deliver Thee

by Jim Murriner

Jer 15:21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.

At this time in our country we might find two very comforting things in this verse.

We can apply all that is said here to all the dangers which we face today, but I want us to look at the more deep meaning here.

I want us to look at this verse in light of our salvation.

I.                    First note who it is that will deliver us.

"I will".  It is the Sovereign of the universe, the God of Heaven, It is the One who created this world out of nothing,

He pledges Himself personally to deliver His people.

Gen. 22:8 God provided Himself to be a sacrificial lamb.

John 1:29 Jesus is shown to be the Lamb of God, or God the lamb, sent for the purpose of being the sacrificial lamb.

This is God fulfilling the pledge that He made in Jeremiah 15:21, because Jesus is God.

John 1:1 - 3   ;   Col. 1:16   ;   Heb. 1:12  ;   John 10:30

Even when Jesus was about to be born He was said to be coming to save His people.

Mt. 1:21

In our text verse Jeremiah 15:21 there is no mention of any effort of our own which may be needed to assist the Lord.

He considers not our strength or our weakness.

Noting also that God tells us that He will deliver us from the hand of the wicked, why then do we look to weak and miserable things to help us get to heaven.

Gal. 4:9

Trying to keep the law or trying to do any other good work that might impress God, is what the Apostle Paul, by the inspiration of God is calling weak and beggarly.

God has power enough to deliver us from the wicked, without borrowing from our puny arm.

Isaiah 64:6 tells us that if we wanted to do works to add to that deliverance which God gives, that we would not have the ability to do good works.

Ps. 98:1  ;  Ps 136:12

While Isaiah by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit tells us that we have no good works to present for our own deliverance, we are told that God not only will deliver us with His stretched out arm, but is quite able to do so.

Eph. 3:20  ;  Jude 1:24

Today if you are not sure that you are on your way to heaven, you must trust this one who, not only promised to deliver, but is able.
